Commons
The Commons is the home for the Braves cheer, dance, men's wrestling, and women's wrestling teams. Coaches offices are located above the practice area on the second floor. On the ground floor, the Braves wrestling teams have a small practice facility and coaches offices are located here, as well as the Braves football coaching staff. The back portion of the facility serves as the restrooms for events held in the Hull Family Athletic Complex.
Ottawa University President, Dr. Price announced plans for the new building on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1913. Work on what is now called the Commons was started with the entire student body digging the foundation on Charter Day (April 21, 1914)
The new gymnasium was formally opened on January 11, 1915 and christened “The Student Building,” because the students played such a large part of its construction with its donations and starting of the construction. The Commons was built on the site of the old gymnasium and is built of native stone with Cottonwood Falls stone trimmings. The exterior dimensions were 70x106 feet. The basement contained two rooms for physical directors, two locker rooms, and a swimming pool. On the second floor, over the reception room and kitchen, is a handball court
The first basketball game that the Braves played in the Commons was on Jan. 15, 1915 against Wichita State University. OU won the game 35-20.
