NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated Bethel College 3-0; 25-23, 25-18, 25-23; on Tuesday night in Thresher Gymnasium. The win is OU's 18
th straight against Bethel.
How it Happened
- Ottawa took a 9-5 lead over Bethel on a Thresher attacking error in set one. Kills by Kaitlyn Haller and Radaisy Valdez increased the OU lead to 14-9. Bethel rallied, tying the set at 16-16. The Braves answered with two straight points, taking a 18-16 lead on a kill by Katelyn Elstun. Bethel rallied again, taking a 20-19 lead over the Braves. A kill by Alexa Boyle tied the set at 20-20. Bethel retook the lead on the next point, 21-20. Kills by Valdez and Jadore Hayes gave OU a 22-21 lead. Bethel scored the next point, tying the set at 22-22. Two more kills by Valdez gave OU a 24-22 lead. The Threshers cut into OU's lead on the next point and were within 24-23. Valdez gave OU the victory with a kill, 25-23.
- OU scored the first three points of set two to take the early lead. Bethel rallied, taking a 10-7 lead over the Braves and Ottawa called a timeout. The Braves went on a 6-1 run, taking a 13-11 lead over Bethel after a kill by Alexa Boyle. The Threshers again cut into OU's lead and tied the set at 17-17. Ottawa finished the set on an 8-1 run, taking a 25-18 victory over Bethel.
- In set three, OU took a 4-1 lead. A kill by Katelyn Elstun gave the Braves a 7-5 lead. Bethel did not go away and took a 20-19 lead over the Braves. Ottawa responded by scoring the next three point to take a 22-20 lead on a block by Haylee O'Meara and Valdez. The Threshers rallied once more, tying the set at 23-23. Ottawa closed out the set and the match by scoring the next two points to take the 25-23 victory.
