Braves vs. Falcons Ends in Scoreless Draw

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's soccer team played the Friend Falcons to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.

There was an equal amount of chances for both sides, but neither team could find a breakthrough in a game that heavily featured goalkeepers from both teams. Jessenia Velez created a couple chances in the first half, but none that really challenged Falcons' keeper Maria Smyth. Friends' best opportunity of the first half came in the 30th minute, but Braves' keeper Willow Good made a huge save on a shot from Falcons' Yairee Perez.  Reighna Werner played right back and marked Perez most of the match, which provided an entertaining individual matchup between the two players. The score remained 0-0 at halftime.

Both sides had several chances to open the second half. Sidney Johnson had a quality chance off a free kick in the 49th minute, taking a shot that went just inches over the left side of crossbar.  Both teams took a total of seven shots in the second half, and both had three shots on goal.  Friends would take four shots in the first 10 minutes, by nothing that was on goal to threaten Braves' keeper Good. Good was eventually called into action three more times, making three saves in the second half for a total of five in the game. Behind the play of both teams' goalkeepers and defense, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Up Next: Braves head to Southwestern on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
