Braves and York Open KCAC Play in Wilson Field House on Wednesday

The Braves defeated Baker University 79-77 last Wednesday in Wilson Field House. Ottawa shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 27.6 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 68.4 percent from the free throw line. OU had four players in double figures led by Deondre Buggage's 21 points. Ty Bland came off the bench to score 14 points, Ian Moore finished the game with 13 points, and Amil Fields scored 12 points. Cody Fredrickson and Fields led OU with six rebounds apiece. Fredrickson led the Braves with five assists. Fields finished with four steals.

Deondre Buggage leads OU in scoring (18.4), Tristen Hull is Ottawa's leader in rebounding (6.7), Cody Fredrickson leads the Braves in assists (2.4) and Ty Bland is OU's leader in steals per game (1.4).

Through five games, Ottawa is averaging 82.4 points, 40.2 rebounds, and 12.8 assists per game. OU is shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 28.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 71.2 percent from the free throw line.

The Braves are ranked 46th in the NAIA in points (412), 43rd in field goals attempted per game (67.8), and 43rd in defensive rebounds per game (29.6).

Wednesday's game is the 15th meeting between Ottawa University and York University. Ottawa leads the series, 8-6, and the Braves are on a two game winning streak against the Panthers. OU won both games last year, defeating York 100-78 in Wilson Field House on Dec. 11, 2021 and 88-71 at the Freeman Center on Feb. 5, 2022. The first meeting took place on Nov. 9, 2001 in Wilson Field House. Ottawa won the game 70-67. The Braves are 5-2 in Wilson Field House against the Panthers

In OU's win over York at the Freeman Center on Feb. 5, 2022, the Braves shot 52.6 percent from the floor, 27.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 85.2 percent from the free throw line. Tristen Hull led OU with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor. He led the Braves with eight rebounds.  Andre Jackson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Joe Johnson III scored 15 points and had a team high five assists. Johnson and Jaquan Daniels led the Braves with three steals apiece. Ty Bland came off the bench to score 11 points.

York University is 2-3 to open the 2022-23 season and snapped its three game losing streak last Friday night with an 84-41 victory over Faith Baptist Bible College. The Panthers first win of the season was their season opener over Doane University on Oct. 27, 82-81.

In York's 84-41 win over Faith Baptist Bible College, the Panthers shot 53 percent from the floor, 34.6 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 41.7 percent from the free throw line. Jordan Marble came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the floor. Tyrik King and Much Biel finished 12 points apiece and Erik Talton scored 10 points.

Through five games this season, York is averaging 87 points, 40.4 rebounds, and 12.4 assists per game. The Panthers are shooting 49.8 percent from the floor, 37.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 68.1 percent from the free throw line.

The Panthers are ranked 36th in the NAIA in total points (435), 46th in points per game (87), 48th in field goal percentage (.498), 43rd in free throws made per game (15.8), 37th in free throws attempted per game (23.2), 22nd in defensive rebounds per game (31.6), and sixth in blocks per game (5.6).

Erik Talton leads York in scoring (14.8), Much Biel is YU's leader in rebounding (7.6), Talton is the Panthers' leader in assists per game (3.2), Elijah Mullett leads the team in steals (2) per game, and Andrew Bennett leads YU in blocks (2) per game.
