Braves are Bested by York, 86-78

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team lost 86-78 to York University on Wednesday night in Wilson Field House.

York started the game on a 12-2 run to take the early 10 point lead with 16:12 on the clock. Ottawa chipped away at the Panther lead and were within one point, 12-11, after a basket by Kamren Woods.

The Panthers pushed its lead back to double digits, 29-17, with seven minutes to go in the half. OU again cut into the lead and after a basket by Ty Bland, Ottawa was down 29-25. York again pushed its lead back to double digits, 37-27, with 2:28 left in the half. OU answered by ending the half on a 7-0 run. A run that was capped off by a 3-pt play by Deondre Buggage and as the buzzer sounded, Ottawa trailed 37-34 at the half.

The Braves cut the York lead at the start of the second half and were down one, 45-44, after a 3-pt basket by Elijah Mason. The Panthers went on an 8-1 run, taking a 53-45 lead over the Braves with 13:45 left in regulation. Ottawa responded with a 16-6 run to take a 61-59 lead over the Panthers on an Ian Moore basket with 8:30 to go in the game.

York answered with a run of its own, 21-11, to take an 80-72 lead over the Braves at the 3:04 mark. Ottawa again cut into the Panther lead and were within four points, 82-78, with 45 seconds on the clock. The Braves were not able to get any closer to York in the final seconds of the game as the Panthers took the 86-78 victory.
