COLUMBIA, Mo. – The (22) Ottawa University women's volleyball team fell 3-0; 25-22, 25-19, 25-20, to (16) Columbia College in the NAIA Opening Round on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
- The Braves raced out to a 9-3 set one lead over Columbia. The Cougars cut into OU's lead and were within 14-12 of OU. A kill by Jazyln Westmore land gave OU a 15-12 lead. CC continued to chip away at the OU lead and took a 19-18 lead over the Braves. The teams exchanged points and set one was tied 22-22. Columbia was able to score the next three points, taking the 25-22 victory.
- A kill by Kaitlyn Haller and a CC attacking error gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead over Columbia in set two. A block by Radaisy Valdez and a block by Elli Rogers and Lillian Holden gave OU a 9-4 lead. Columbia rallied, and took a 14-13 lead over the Braves. The Cougars scored the next four points, taking an 18-13 lead over OU. Ottawa cut into the Columbia lead with a kill by Valdez and a CC attacking error, 19-16. That is all the closer the Braves would get as Columbia closed out the set, taking the 25-19 victory.
- A block and a kill by Valdez, a kill by Haller, and a kill by Holden gave OU a 4-1 lead over Columbia in set 3. A Holden kill pushed the Brave lead to 6-3. The Cougars rallied tied the match 9-9. Ottawa answered with three straight points, taking a 12-9 lead on a Holden kill. Columbia rallied once again and took an 18-14 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to rebound and the Cougars took the 0-0 victory.
