Braves Host McPherson on Tuesday

The Braves are on a four game winning streak after defeating Southwestern College, 83-36, on Saturday afternoon in Stewart Field House. Ottawa finished the game shooting 48.4 percent from the floor, 30 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 77.3 percent from the free throw line. Cierra Brown came of the bench to lead the team in scoring with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor. Katelyn Alatini finished the game with 14 points. Hailey Henry led OU with three assists and two blocks. Janiyah Hendricks finished the game with three steals.

Ottawa is starting 2-0 in KCAC play for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Ottawa's four game winning streak is its longest since the Braves won six straight games during the 2016-17 season.

The Brave defense held Southwestern to four points in the fourth quarter last Saturday in Winfield. That is the lowest scoring quarter for an opponent against the OU defense.

Through seven games this season Ottawa is averaging 77 points, 47.3 rebounds, and 13.4 assists per game. OU is shooting 45.7 percent from the floor, 36.2 percent from behind the arc, and 78.4 percent from the free throw line.

The Braves are ranked 30th in the NAIA in total points (539), 34th in points per game (77), 43rd in field goals made per game (27.9), 31st in field goal percentage (.457), 27th in 3-pt field goal percentage (.362), ninth in free throw percentage (.784), fourth in defensive rebounds per game (34.6), 16th in total rebounds per game (47.3), 22nd in rebound margin per game (11.6), 12th in personal fouls per game (13.1), 33rd in points allowed per game (56), and 11th in opponents field goal percentage (.310).

Nicole Brown leads the Braves in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (12.8). Ahoneste Walker is OU's leader in assists (2) per game, Brown is the team's leader in blocks (1.2) per game, and Cierra Brown leads Ottawa in steals (1.2) per game.

Tuesday is the 85th meeting between Ottawa University and McPherson College. Ottawa leads the series, 43-41 but the Bulldogs are on a three game winning streak against OU. The last time OU defeated McPherson was in Wilson Field House on Dec. 14, 2020. Ottawa won the game 86-78.

In the loss to McPherson in Wilson Field House on Feb. 9, 2022, Ottawa shot 46.9 percent from the floor, 25 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 47.6 percent from the free throw line. Kanecia Payne was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds. Amyr Lowe scored 15 points and Liz Vaughn and Kennedy Bankett finished the game with 12 points apiece.  Vaughn had seven assists and two steals. Payne had three blocks.

The first meeting between McPherson and Ottawa took place in 1976 in McPherson. The Bulldogs won the game 74-35.

McPherson College is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the KCAC. The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the road this season. MC enters Tuesday's game coming off a 59-48 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan at The Sport Center.

In the win over OKWU last Saturday in McPherson, the Bulldogs trailed 15-11 after one quarter of play. MC outscored the Eagles 48-33 the rest of the way, taking the 59-48 victory. McPherson shot 35.1 percent from the floor, 20 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 63 percent from the free throw line.

Two players  were in double figures for McPherson in the win over OKWU. Matisyn Moses scored 14 points and Summer Kirckman finished the game with 10 points. Dayjsha Fanning led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds. McPherson scored 27 points off 23 OKWU turnovers while the Eagles scored 20 points off 23 MC turnovers.

*Cumulative stats for McPherson are only available for three games. Through three games this season, McPherson is averaging 66 points, 40 rebounds, and 12.3 assists per game. The Bulldogs are shooting 35.4 percent from the floor, 27.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 68.1 percent from the free throw line.

In three games, Dy'Mond Mcelrath leads McPherson in scoring (13.3), Dayjsha Fanning leads the team in rebounding (5.7), Mcelrath is the team's leader in assists (5), Jayla Moore leads the team in blocks (0.3), and Mcelrath is the team's leader in steals (2.3).
