Box Score OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's soccer team advanced throught the KCAC Tournament first round with a 3-1 win over the York Panthers on Friday evening at AdventHealth Field.
Both teams had an equal number of opportunities early in the match, with Braves' keeper
Julio Coronado making two saves early in the opening 20 minutes. Ottawa scored the opening goal in the 20
th minute with a goal from
Alonso Basauri assisted by
Jarrin Kerkhoff. Basauri lost his defender with a beautiful first touch off Kerkhoff's pass, calmly finishing into the top left corner with his left foot to put the Braves up 1-0.
Ottawa doubled their lead shortly after in the 22
nd minute, this time a goal by
Slobodan Novicevic assisted by
Bence Molnar. Just like so many goals this season, Molnar took the ball down flank and whipped in a cross to Novicevic in the box who finished with a tap-in goal.
York would cut the Braves' lead in half in the 35
th minute, with a goal from Johan Rodriguez assisted by Otavio Avila. OU's one goal lead would be temporary, getting back a two goal lead following a laser strike by
Lazar Milovic assisted by
Owain Parker. Parker played a diagonal pass to Milovic, strike the ball on a bounce with a rocket volley that found the back of the net and put the Braves up 3-1.
There were some memorable moments in the second half, but the Braves essentially locked down the remainder of the contest. Ottawa cruised in the second half for the 3-1 win.
