Ottawa was defeated by Hastings College 87-51 and (RV) Concordia University, 86-82, last weekend. The Braves shot 39 percent from the floor, 16.3 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 76.9 percent from the free throw line at the Cattle Classic Basketball Tournament.
Elijah Mason was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Through four games this season, Ottawa is shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, 29.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 71.8 percent from the free throw line. OU is averaging 83.3 points, 40 rebounds, and 13 assists per game.
The Braves are ranked 20th in the NAIA in points (333) and 49th in field goals attempted per game (67.8).
Wednesday's game is the 204th meeting between the Braves and the Wildcats. Baker leads the series, 107-96 but the Braves are on a four game winning streak and have won five out of the last seven meetings. Ottawa won last season's game in Baldwin City, 91-80 on Nov. 3, 2021. The first game took place in 1902 in Baldwin City. Ottawa won the game 53-5.
In the win over Baker last season, Ottawa shot 51.7 percent from the floor, 25 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 69.4 percent from the free throw line. The Braves had five players in double figures, led by Perry Carroll's 20 points.
Ty Bland finished the game with 19, Jaquan Daniels scored 15, Andre Jackson had 11 points, and
Tristen Hull scored 10 points. Jackson led OU with nine rebounds. Jackson Mallory came led the Braves with six assists. Mallory and Bland had three steals apiece.
Baker University is 3-0 to start the 2022-23 season. The Wildcats have victories over Baptist Bible College on Oct. 28 (110-90), Kansas Christian College on Oct. 31 (74-71), and the University of Saint Mary on Nov. 3 (83-70).
In the win over the University of Saint Mary on Nov. 3, the Wildcats erased a 10 point half time deficit to take an 83-70 victory. Baker shot 48.2 percent from the floor, 57.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 75 percent from the free throw line. Korey Jones led Baker in scoring with 17 points, Jalen Patterson finished the game with 16 points, Quentin Harvey scored 15 points, and Noah Rigatuso came off the bench to scored 14 points.
Through three games, Baker is averaging 89 points, 44.3 rebounds, and 15 assists per game. The Wildcats are shooting 46.6 percent from the floor, 33.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 68.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Wildcats are ranked 44th in the NAIA in field goals attempted per game (68), 21st in free throws made per game (19), 17th in free throws attempted per game (27.7), 16th in defensive rebounds per game (33.3), 25th in total rebounds per game (44.3), and 38th in rebound margin per game (11.7).
Quentin Harvey leads Baker in scoring (19.3), rebounding (10.3), and blocks (2.3). Noah Rigatuso is BU's leader in assists (3.5) per game and Justin Batts II is the team's leader in steals (1.3) per game.
Baker was picked to finish ninth in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). Last season the Wildcats finished 10th in the HAAC with a record of 8-11.
