#22 Braves Play Southwestern in the KCAC Tournament Quarterfinals

Ottawa finished the regular season on a 14 match winning streak, wrapping up its ninth KCAC Championship with a 3-0; 25-23, 25-18, 25-17; victory over Friends University last Saturday night at the Garvey Center.

OU has only dropped two sets in its 12 KCAC matches and has recorded 11 sweeps of conference opponents.

During its 14 match winning streak, the Braves have 635 kills, a .239 attacking percentage, 591 assists, 83 service aces, 855 digs, and 89.5 team blocks.

Ottawa is averaging 1.8 service aces per set and 5.9 service aces per match during its 14 match winning streak.

The Braves are led in kills by Radaisy Valdez with 382. She is averaging 3.3 kills per set. Haylee O'Meara is OU's leader in assists with 608. That is an average of 5.3 assists per set. OU has three players with 30 or more service aces: Jadore Hayes (38), Haylee O'Meara (37), and Kennedi Wyrick (31). Hayes is OU's leader in digs with 558. She is averaging 4.8 digs per set. Elli Rogers leads the team in blocks (104), averaging 0.9 per set.

Friday's match is the 94th meeting between the two teams. Ottawa leads the series 65-28 and is on a 30 match winning streak against Southwestern. OU has not lost to SWC since Oct. 7, 2008 in Winfield, 3-0. Ottawa has not dropped a set to the Moundbuilders in six straight matches. The first meeting between Ottawa and Southwestern happened on Oct. 1976 at Baker University. OU won the match 2-0; 15-6, 15-0.

Ottawa won the match this season on Sept. 21 in Wilson Field House 3-0, 25-15, 25-10, 25-15. OU finished the match with 42 kills, a .293 attacking percentage, 34 assists, six service aces, 67 digs, and four team blocks. Radaisy Valdez led OU with 16 kills ad had a .500 attacking percentage. OU's setters both finished the match with a double-double. Haylee O'Meara had 18 assists and 10 digs. Kaitlyn Haller finished the match with 12 assists and 16 digs. Jadore Hayes led the Braves with 17 digs and Kennedi Wyrick had 12 digs.

OU is 42-16 in the KCAC Tournament and have won 10 KCAC Tournament Championships. The Braves have won six out of the last seven KCAC Tournaments, including the last four (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021). Ottawa and Southwestern have met five times in the KCAC Tournament. Ottawa has a record of 4-1 in those matches and has won the last four meetings in the KCAC Tournament. Through 33 matches, the Braves are averaging 12.5 kills per set, 11.6 assists per set, 2.03 blocks per set, 1.5 service aces per set, and 18.2 digs per set. OU has a .202 attacking percentage.

The Braves are ranked 30th in the NAIA in kills (1,454), 21st in total attacks (4,447), 28th in assists (1,351), 15th in digs (2,112), 29th in digs per set (18.2), 38th in solo blocks (75), 41st in block assists (322), 30th in total blocks (236), and 44th in blocks per set (2.03).

Southwestern College is 11-14 overall and finish eighth in the KCAC with a record of 5-7. The Moundbuilders defeated Avila University in the KCAC Tournament Opening Round 3-0 on Nov. 8 in Winfield. It was Southwestern's second win over the Eagles in less than a week.

In the win over Avila on Tuesday night, Southwestern had 36 kills, a .151 attacking percentage, 36 assists, two service aces, 74 digs and seven team blocks. KaSandra Lyons and Anna Bradley led the Moundbuilders with eight kills apiece. Maela Stevens led the team with 19 assists, Sophia Wicker had 20 digs, and Jayda Brittenum finished with four blocks.

Through 25 matches, Southwestern is averaging 10.6 kills per set, 10.05 assists per set, 1.2 blocks per set, 0.9 service aces per set, and 19.5 digs per set. The Moundbuilders have a .119 attacking percentage.

SWC is ranked seventh in the NAIA in digs per set (19.5) and 28th in ball handling errors (42).

Hannah Weber leads Southwestern in kills with 180, averaging 2.07 kills per set. Sierra Norlin is the team's leader in assists (433) and she is averaging 4.9 assists per set. Sophia Wickers is SWC's leader in service aces (24) and digs (563). She is averaging 6.4 digs per set. Brianne Ede leads the team in blocks with 49, an average of 0.6 per set.
