Cool Shooting Hurts Braves in Loss to Friends, 61-49

WICHITA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team fell 61-49 to Friends University on Saturday evening at the Garvey Center.

The Braves found themselves down 10-2 at the 3:15 mark in the first quarter to the Falcons. OU chipped away at the Friends' lead, scoring the final six points of the first quarter to get with in 10-8 of the Falcons at the start of quarter no. 2.

Friends scored the first seven points of the second quarter to increase its lead to 17-8 over the Braves. Jayla Johnson scored the first basket of the quarter for the Braves, a 3-pt field goal, to get within 18-11 of the Falcons. Ottawa continued to cut into the Friends lead and at the 1:36 mark, a 3-pt field goal by Janiyah Hendricks cut the deficit to 22-18. Friends stopped the Braves run by scoring the final basket of the half, taking a 24-18 lead into the locker room.

Friends outscored the Braves 23-15 in the third quarter, taking a double digit lead, 33-22, in the first three minutes of the second half. Ottawa again cut into the Falcon lead. A basket by Nicole Brown put OU within 33-27 at the 4:37 mark. Friends responded by ending the quarter on a 14-6 run, taking a 47-33 lead into the fourth.

The Falcons increased their lead to 20 points, 59-39, with 4:38 to go in the game. Ottawa did not go away and at the 1:26 mark, Cierra Brown's 3-pt field goal cut the deficit to 59-49. That would be all the closer the Braves would get as Friends took the 61-49 victory.
