NEVADA, Mo. – The Ottawa University flag football team earned its fifth straight victory on Wednesday evening, defeating Cottey College 55-0 at Twin Lakes Park.
Ottawa scored on all six offensive possessions against Cottey.
Madysen Carrera started things off with a 25 yard touchdown pass to
Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt by
Clara Beaudoin was good and the Braves led 7-0 with 9:25 to go in the first quarter.
The OU defense forced a second straight punt, giving the Braves the ball on its own 40 yard line. Carrera threw her second touchdown pass of the day. This one to
Courtney Wille. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 14-0 lead at the 3:47 mark in the first quarter.
The Comets did not hang on to the ball for long. The Brave defense forced a Cottey turnover.
Jennifer Anthony earned her sixth interception of the season, giving Ottawa's offense the ball on the CC 39 yard line. Three plays later Carrera found an open
Bailey Hodgins for the 18 yard touchdown.
Addison Orsborn's extra point attempt was good and the Braves extended its lead to 21-0 over Cottey with 10:46 to go in the first half.
Ottawa's defense forced another Cottey punt and the Brave offense took advantage of the field position. Carrera and Camacho connected on a 16 yard touchdown pass. Hodgins extra point attempt was good and Ottawa had a 28-0 lead at the half.
The Braves received the ball to start the second half.
Sidney Rood threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to
Alyssa Linkous, increasing the Brave lead to 34-0 with 9:41 left in the third quarter.
OU forced another Cottey punt and took over on its own 33 yard line. Four plays later, Rood threw a second touchdown pass to Linkous. The Carrera PAT attempt was good and the Braves led 41-0 with 5:11 to go in the third.
Ottawa's defense forced another Comet punt and the Braves took over on the Cottey 22 yard line. Rood connected with Wille for the 14 yard touchdown. Beaudoin's extra point attempt was good and Ottawa had a 48-0 lead with 10:27 left in the fourth quarter.
The OU defense forced a turnover on downs, giving the offense back the ball on the CC 35 yard line. This time with Hodgins at quarterback, Ottawa found the end zone. Hodgins found an open Beaudoin for the touchdown. Beaudoin converted the extra point and as time hit 00:00, Ottawa took the 55-0 victory.
