ATCHISON, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University men's lacrosse team concluded the 2022 season with a 18-12 loss against Benedictine in the KCAC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday evening in Atchison, Kan.
The Braves were the No. 3 seed heading into the KCAC Tournament, coming off a Quarterfinals win over Midland in the game prior. Benedictine had a first-round bye with the No. 2 seed, set to play No. 1 St. Ambrose in championship game following their win over OU.
Much like the last game between these two teams just over a week ago, the Braves came out flat-footed and allowed the Ravens to jump out to a quick start. Benedictine scored the games' first six goals before OU got on the board with a goal from
Joey Ceto with 1:23 in the first quarter.
The Braves found some offense in the second quarter, with two goals from
Vincent DeMarco and
Jake Noernberg in the period. While OU started to get some goals, they couldn't slow down Benedictine's attack, being outscored by the Ravens 5-4 in the second. The Braves headed into the half down 11-5.
Following a Ravens' goal to start the half, the Braves answered with goals from
Robert Roseberry and
William Carroll to make the score 12-7 at the 11:20 mark of the third quarter. The Braves would bring their deficit within five a couple times in the second half, but that's as close as it would get. Both teams went goal for goal the rest of the way, scoring seven goals in the second half. The Ravens' fast start in the first quarter proved too much to overcome for the Braves.
