Tuesday's match is the 98th meeting between Ottawa University and Kansas Wesleyan University. This match will be a non-conference contest for the two teams. KWU leads the series, 50-47 but OU is on a three match winning streak against Kansas Wesleyan. Ottawa won the meeting last year in Salina, 3-1; 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, on Sept. 18. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Sept. 28, 1979 in Salina. Kansas Wesleyan won the match 2-0; 15-12, 15-12. The Coyotes won the first 22 meetings between the two teams. Ottawa's first win over KWU happened on Oct. 2, 1990 in Salina, 2-0; 15-12, 15-12.
The match with Briar Cliff University is just the second meeting between the two teams. The first meeting was on Oct. 30, 2004 at the Mount Mercy Tournament. Briar Cliff won the match 3-1; 20-30, 31-29, 9-30, 26-30.
Ottawa has won its last two home openers with victories over MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2020, 3-1, and the University of Saint Mary in 2021, 3-2.
Kansas Wesleyan University is 9-4 this season and on a two match winning streak with 3-0 victories over Florida College on Sept. 3 and Friends University on Sept. 8.
