Braves Host William Woods, Hastings and Doane at OU Invitational

Ottawa was defeated 3-0; 25-19, 25-19, 26-24; by Kansas Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon but bounced back to take a 3-0 victory over Briar Cliff University, 25-18, 25-13, 25-12 on Tuesday evening in Wilson Field House. The Braves finished the two matches with 74 kills, a .181 attacking percentage, 69 assists, eight service aces, 112 digs, 15 team blocks.

Through 13 matches, the Braves are averaging 11.4 kills per set, 10.7 assists per set, 2.2 blocks per set, 1.2 service aces per set, and 17.9 digs per set. OU has a .156 attacking percentage.

OU is ranked 19th in the NAIA in total attacks (1,884), 52nd in assists (528), 47th in reception errors (82), 23rd in digs (880), 23rd in digs per set (17.9), 20th in solo blocks (37), 20th in block assists (146), 14th in total blocks (110), and 23rd in blocks per set (2.2).

Radaisy Valdez leads Ottawa in kills (162) and is averaging 3.31 kills per set. She is also leading the Braves in blocks with 47. Valdez is averaging 0.9 blocks per set. Kaitlyn Haller is OU's leader in assists (242) and has a 4.94 assists per set average. Jadore Hays leads OU in service aces per set (0.3) and digs 241. She is averaging 4.9 digs per set.

Friday's match against William Woods University is the sixth meeting between the two teams. Ottawa leads the series, 3-2 and is on a three match winning streak against the Owls. Ottawa won the last meeting in the NAIA Opening Round in Wilson Field House on April 17, 2021 3-1; 25-14, 26-24, 19-25, 25-20. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Sept. 14, 1991 in Baldwin City, Kan. WWU won the match 2-0; 16-14, 15-10.

Hastings College leads the series against the Braves, 2-0. The Broncos won the first meeting between the two teams on Sept. 1, 2017 in Hastings. Then ranked no. 1 in the NAIA, Hastings won the match 3-0; 25-21, 25-22, 25-14. The next meeting took place at the NAIA Final Site in Sioux City, Iowa on Nov. 27, 2018. Hastings won the match 3-0; 25-23, 25-22, 26-24.

Saturday's contest is the fourth meeting between Ottawa and Doane University. DU leads the series 2-1 but OU won the last meeting between the two teams on Sept. 7, 2018 in Hutchinson, Kan. 3-1; 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22. The first meeting between the teams took place on Sept. 20, 1985. Doane won the match 2-0; 15-4, 15-0. The second meeting took place that same day with Doane taking the 2-0 victory; 15-3, 15-9.

William Woods University has an overall record of 2-8 and have lost four straight matches. Through 10 matches, the Owls are averaging 9.5 kills per set, 9.1 assists per set, 2.3 blocks per set, 1.2 service aces per set, and 16.7 digs per set. WWU has a .112 attacking percentage.

Hastings College has opened the 2022 season with an overall record of 9-4 and a 1-2 mark in the GPAC. The Broncos enter Friday coming off a 3-1 victory over Mount Marty on Sept. 10. Through 13 matches, HC is averaging 12.6 kills per set, 11.6 assists per set, 2.2 blocks per set, 1.3 service aces per set, and 14.5 digs per set. The Broncos have a .206 attacking percentage.

Doane University has an overall record of 4-10 and a GPAC record of 0-3. The Tigers are on a two match losing streak with losses to Mount Marty 3-1 on Sept. 7 and College of Saint Mary, 3-0, on Sept. 10. Through 14 matches, the Tigers are averaging 11.6 kills per set, 10.8 assists per set, 1.9 blocks per set, 1.3 service aces per set, and 17.5 digs per set. DU has a .183 attacking percentage.
