SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The Ottawa University women's soccer team has one game left of a two day road trip in Iowa, traveling to Sioux Center to play Dordt University today at 6 p.m.
The Defenders have won their last two games, beating Nebraska Wesleyan and Carroll. They started the season with back-to-back losses against Colorado Christian and Metropolitan State. Avril Baccam leads Dordt with four goals scored so far this season, and scored two goals against OU in last season's matchup of these two teams.
OU is coming off back-to-back defeats against MidAmerica Nazarene and Northwestern to start the season.
Jessenia Velez also scored twice in last year's matchup of these two teams, a close 3-2 loss to the Defenders.
The Ottawa women's soccer team finds themself with their second coach in just as many years, with head coach
Candice Fabry taking over the program in 2022. Coach Fabry takes the reigns of a roster that includes 18 returners from last season, and added to the roster over the summer with plenty of new signings.
Fabry comes to OU after serving as Associate Head Coach for the Kansas City Courage soccer team, a professional amateur women's soccer team in the United Women's Soccer League. The Courage have produced two players that are on the KC Current, Kansas City's professional women's soccer team that competes in the NWSL Women's League. Fabry was an essential piece to the Courage, she helped execute the entire on field experience of the team members and support staff. As Associate Head Coach, Fabry planned, coordinated and coached all training and match days, player management, periodization plans for teams and individuals and recruitment of staff and players to the program.
