BELLEVUE, Neb. – The Ottawa University women's volleyball fell 3-0; 25-17, 25-22, 25-21 to Indiana Tech in its final match of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic at the Lied Activity Center on Saturday afternoon. OU finished the event with a record of 3-1 with two wins over NAIA Top 25 opponents.
How it Happened
- Indiana Tech scored the first three points of set one. Ottawa cut into the Warrior lead and after two straight kills by Radaisy Valdez, the Braves were within 4-3. Indiana Tech. The Warriors, however, were able to extend their lead and had a 13-7 advantage over the Braves. Ottawa was just not able to rally down the stretch and Indiana Tech took the 25-17 victory.
- In set two, Indiana Tech took the early 5-1 lead over the Braves. Ottawa answered with four straight points, tying the set 5-5 on a kill by Alexa Boyle. Indiana Tech retook the lead, 9-7 but OU again responded. This time scoring three straight points to take a 10-9 lead on a Kennedi Wyrick service ace. Indiana Tech tied the set on the next point but OU retook the lead, 12-10, with a Kaitlyn Haller kill and a Warrior attacking error. The Braves continued to hold its lead and after a kill by Valdez, OU led 17-13. Indiana Tech then rallied with a 9-2 run to take a 22-19 lead over the Braves. OU cut the deficit to two, 22-20, on a block by Elli Rogers and Haller. The Braves were not able to answer Indiana Tech's run with one of their own, falling 25-22.
- Indiana Tech took the lead at the start of set three. Ottawa stayed within striking distance and after a Warrior ball handling error, the Braves had tied the set 19-19. Indiana Tech retook the lead on the next serve, 20-19. Valdez's kill tied the set 20-20. The Warriors scored the next two points to take a 22-20 lead. Ottawa cut the deficit to one, 22-21, after a Warrior miscue. Indiana Tech was able to finish the set and the match by scoring the next three points to take the 25-23 victory.
