Braves to Play #4 Southwestern in Ottawa on Saturday

The Braves earned its seventh straight win over Tabor College on Saturday night with a 66-58 victory in Tabor Gymnasium. Ottawa shot 33.3 percent from the floor, 11.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 88.9 percent from the free throw line. Ty Bland led the way with a double-double. He scored 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Bland also had two steals.

Deondre Buggage leads the Braves in scoring (16.6), Amil Fields lead the team in rebounding (8.0), Buggage is OU's leader in assists (2.0), Elijah Mason leads OU in blocks (0.6), and Fields is the team's leader in blocks (1.6).

The Braves are 5-4 this season in Wilson Field House and has lost two straight at home. Ottawa was defeated by Sterling College 102-89 on Jan. 11 and Briar Cliff University 69-67 on Dec. 31.

At home this season, Ottawa is averaging 85.8 points per game while opponents are scoring 83.2 points. The Braves are shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, 34.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, 37.2 percent from behind the arc, and 70.5 percent from the free throw line.

OU has four players averaging in double figures at home this year and two players averaging just under 10 points per game in Wilson Field House. Deondre Buggage (20.8), Tristen Hull (18), Ty Bland (12.9), Ian Moore (12.8), Amil Fields (9.9), and Elijah Mason (9.2).

This season, OU is averaging 80.1 points, 37.1 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game. The Braves are shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, 31.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 72.5 percent from the free throw line.

The Braves are ranked 19th in the NAIA in field goal attempts per game (66.1), 44th in 3-pt field goals attempted per game (25.4), 22nd in free throws made per game (15.7), 30th in free throws attempted per game (21.6), and 46th in defensive rebounds per game (27.9).

Saturday is the 138th meeting between Ottawa University and no. 4 Southwestern College. Southwestern leads the series, 82-55, and is on a three game winning streak against the Braves. The first meeting between the team teams happened on Feb. 9, 1907 in Ottawa. The Braves won the game 60-14.

The Braves are 3-2 in their last five games in Wilson Field House against the Moundbuilders. Southwestern won the first meeting this season in Stewart Field House. SWC, then ranked no. 11 in the NAIA, took an 84-81 win over OU on Nov. 19, 2022. Ottawa shot 50 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 61.9 percent from the free throw line. OU had four players in double figures, led by Amil Fields' double-double. He scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Ty Bland scored 20 points, Ian Moore finished the game with 13 points, and Cody Fredrickson scored 10 points.

Southwestern College has an overall record of 16-3, a KCAC mark of 10-3, is 5-2 on the road this season, and ranked no. 4 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Moundbuilders enter Saturday's game coming off a 75-73 loss to no. 2 Oklahoma Wesleyan University

In the loss to OKWU on Wednesday, Southwestern shot 40.7 percent from the floor, 24 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 82.6 percent from the free throw line. The Moundbuilders only had two points off the bench in the loss. Cevin Clark scored 25 points. Andrew O'Brien and Deng Bol had double-doubles. O'Brien scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. He had five assists. Bol scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds.

This season, Southwestern is averaging 83.8 points, 41.2 rebounds, and 16.4 assists per game. They are shooting 46.4 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 73.1 percent from the free throw line.

Cevin Clark leads SWC in scoring (21.6). Andrew O'Brien leads the team in rebounding (10.1), assists (7.1), and steals (1.3). O'Brien and Cooper Pierce leads the Moundbuilders in blocks (0.9).

On the road this season, Southwestern is averaging almost 10 points per game less than what they average in Winfield. The Moundbuilders are scoring 77.9 points per game on the road and shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, 33.7 percent from behind the arc, and 68.3 percent from the free throw line. At home this season, SWC is scoring 86.9 points per game and shooting 47.9 percent from the floor, 36.3 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 75 percent from the free throw line.
