Braves Down Bethel, 91-80

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team defeated Bethel College, 91-80, in Thresher Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

Ottawa came out on fire at the start of the first half and had an 11-3 lead over Bethel. The Threshers rallied, putting together a 24-9 run to take a 27-20 lead over the Braves with 10:07 on the clock.

The Braves cut into the Bethel lead, tying the game at 29 all on a 3-pt field goal by Ian Moore.  The Threshers responded by scoring nine straight points to take a 38-29 lead with 5:07 left in the half.
Ottawa did not wilt and ended the half on a 15-7 run to get within one, 45-44, at the half.

OU continued with its run from the first half into the second, taking a 56-49 lead on a 3-pt field goal by Moore. Bethel cut Ottawa's lead to three points, 57-54, but baskets by Amil Fields and Kamren Woods gave the Braves a 61-54 lead at the 13:08 mark.

The Braves continued to hold its lead pushing it to double digits, 71-61, with 8:18 left in the game on an Elijah Mason basket. Bethel again cut into OU's lead and were with in four points, 73-69. OU responded with 3-pt baskets from Deondre Buggage and Fields to push its lead to 79-69.

Bethel had one more run left and cut OU's double digit lead to five points, 83-78, with 1:04 on the clock. That is all the closer the Threshers would get to the Braves. Ottawa finished the game by outscoring Bethel 8-2, taking the 91-80 victory.
