Men's Basketball Moves Past Haskell, 89-69

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team won its second straight game, defeating Haskell Indian Nations University 89-69 on Saturday evening in Wilson Field House.

Back-to-back 3-pt field goals by Deondre Buggage and Ricado Zambrano gave the Braves a 15-4 lead over Haskell at the start of the first half. HINU did not go away and rallied to tie the game at 26 all with 6:32 to go in the first half.

Ottawa pushed its lead to nine points, 40-31, on a 3-pt field goal by Zambrano with 2:21 on the clock. Haskell ended the half by scoring the final six points and Ottawa led 40-37 at the half.
Jayden Hibbitt opened the second half with a three, giving the Braves a 43-37 lead. The Indians scored the next five points, cutting OU's lead to 43-42 at the 18:32 mark.

The Braves pushed its lead back to double figures, 63-52, on two Amil Fields free throws. HINU's Masen Spoonhunter's 3-pt field goal with 9:38 left in regulation cut OU's lead to eight points, 63-55.

That would be the last time OU's lead would get under 10 points. Ottawa responded with a 17-6 run, taking an 80-61 lead on a basket by Angok Anyang with 4:45 on the clock in the second half. The Braves were able to empty their bench in the final 1:27 of the second half, taking the 89-69 victory.

  • Jayden Hibbitt led the Braves with 17 points. Angok Anyang and Kamren Woods scored 13 points apiece. Deondre Buggage finished the game with 11 points and Amil fields came off the bench, finishing with a double-double. He scored 10 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
  • Buggage and Woods led the Braves with four assists apiece. Woods also had three steals.
