(RV) Women's Volleyball Upends McPherson, Moves on to KCAC Semifinals

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University women's volleyball team took a 3-1; 16-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18; victory over McPherson College in the KCAC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday morning at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The win is OU's fifth straight over McPherson in KCAC Tournament play.

How it Happened
  • Set one was tied 9-9 when McPherson sent on a 10-3 run to take a 19-12 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to recover, and the Bulldogs took the 25-16 victory.
  • Ottawa scored the first two points of set two on kills by Katelyn Elstun and Radaisy Valdez. McPherson responded by scoring the next three points to take a 3-2 lead. Ottawa answered with six straight point to retake the lead, 8-3. McPherson rallied, tying the set at 16-16. OU put together another run, taking a 21-18 lead on a Valdez service ace. The Bulldogs scored the next four points, tying the set at 21 all. Ottawa retook the lead on a Blythe Manson kill and extended it to 23-21 on a MC attacking error. McPherson cut into the Brave lead on the next point, 23-22. Ottawa, however, was able to score the final two points of the set to take the 25-22 victory.
  • Set three was tight until the midway point of the set. With Ottawa leading 13-12, OU reeled off five straight points to take a 17-12 lead on a block by Elstun and Lillian Holden. McPherson was not able to rally and OU took the 25-17 victory.
  • Two straight Kennedi Wyrick service aces and a Bulldog attacking error gave Ottawa a 13-10 lead over McPherson in set four. After a MC timeout, the Braves scored three more points and led 16-10. McPherson was unable to recover and the Braves took the 25-18 victory.

  • Ottawa finished the match with 54 kills, a .262 attacking percentage, 51 assists, six service aces, 70 digs, and six team blocks.
  • Blythe Manson led OU in kills with 18. She had a .552 attacking percentage, four digs and three blocks.
  • Radaisy Valdez was right behind her with 16 kills. She had two service aces and three blocks.
  • Ryleigh Sander finished the match with a double-double, 27 assists and 11 digs.
  • Madison Brauner had 15 assists and six digs.
  • Jadore Hayes led OU with 24 digs.
