Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team was defeated 77-61 by Friends University at the Garvey Center on Saturday night.
Ottawa had a seven point lead over Friends, 17-10, with 4:50 left in the first on a 3-pt field goal by
Kennedy Bankett. The Falcons rallied and were within two points, 20-18. Ottawa answered with threes by
Jayla Johnson and
Desiree Marshall-Penny to take a 26-18 lead into the second quarter.
Friends opened the second quarter with a run, outscoring the Braves 13-4 to take a 31-30 lead. Ottawa did not let the Falcons widen the gap and tied the game at 36 all on a basket by
Abby Dietsche with eight seconds left in the half. Friends, however, was able to connect on a 3-pt field goal at the buzzer to take a 39-36 lead into the locker room.
Neither team scored for the first 2:30 of the third quarter. Friends was able to break the ice and pushed its lead to 10 points, 49-39, with 5:24 remaining in the third. Ottawa cut the deficit to five points, 49-44 on a Tottie Allen jumper. Friends was able to push its lead back to double figures by ending the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 58-46 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, Ottawa was not able cut into the Falcon double digit lead and Friends took the 77-61 victory.
