Men's Basketball is Tripped Up by Kansas Wesleyan, 77-67

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team fell 77-67 to Kansas Wesleyan University on Wednesday night in Wilson Field House.

Ottawa took a 9-0 lead over Kansas Wesleyan at the start of the first half. The Coyotes chipped away at the OU lead and with 10:05 left in the half, the Brave lead was cut to 20-17.

A 3-pt field goal by Payton Kaiser gave Ottawa a 23-17 lead. KWU answered with an 8-0 run and took its first lead of the game, 25-23 with 5:53 left in the half. The Braves scored the next four points, retaking the lead 27-25 at the 3:17 mark in the first half.

Kansas Wesleyan took the lead once more, this time on a on a 3-pt field goal by Easton Hunter, 28-27. Ottawa quickly answered with a Deondre Buggage jumper, 29-28 with 2:45 on the clock.

The Coyotes took the lead again a little more than a minute later, 30-29. Buggage's basket with 42 second on the clock gave OU a 31-30 lead. The Coyotes, however, were able to score the final basket of the half and KWU took a 32-31 lead into the locker room.

Baskets by Jayden Hibbitt and Angok Anyang gave the Braves a 35-32 lead in the opening minutes of the second half. The Coyotes responded with a 14-0 run to take a 46-35 lead over the Braves.

Ottawa cut the Kansas Wesleyan lead to five points, 46-41, after a Buggage basket with 14:07 left in the contest. The Coyotes were able to push its lead back to double figures, 51-41.

The Braves were again able to cut KWU's lead to five points and after an Amil Fields layup, Ottawa was within 64-59 with 4:33 remaining in the game. That is all the closer OU was able to get to the Coyotes. The Braves were not able to rally in the final four minutes of the contest as KWU pushed its lead back to double digits and took the 77-67 victory.
