Braves Power Past Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Ottawa University softball team ran its winning streak to six games with its sweep of Texas Wesleyan University at Sycamore Park on Friday afternoon. Ottawa won game one 8-0 and game two in five innings, 8-0.

Game One
Ottawa broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth inning. Cierra Faubion reached first on a walk and Macey Morris moved her to second with an infield single. After a TWU pitching change, Riley Newbold was hit by a pitch, loading the bases.

OU took a 1-0 lead on Katie Enneking's ground out to short stop. Allison Kearney cleared the bases with one swing of her bat, hitting a three run bomb to right-center and OU had a 4-0 lead.

The Braves added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Nayely Delgado reached first on a walk. Aliks scored her with a double to right and OU had a 5-0 lead. Faubion followed that with a single to right and the Braves had runners on the corners. Morris was able to score Serna with a ground out to second, giving OU a 6-0 lead.

Ottawa pushed two more runs across home plate in the top of the seventh. Kearney connected on her second home run of the game to give the Braves a 7-0 lead. OU then took advantage of a miscue by the Rams, Madison Bunfill scored on an error by the TWU catcher and the Braves took the lead and the game, 8-0.

Inside the Box Score
  • Aliks Serna and Allison Kearney both finished with two hits apiece. Both of Kearney's hits were home runs.
  • Kearney led OU with four RBI.
  • Ashlynn Mercer earned her third win of the season. She struck out three in six innings and only allowed two hits
Game Two
Ottawa took the lead in the top of the third with an explosion of eight runs. The Brave offense scored on four hits and one error. Kelcie Kippes only allowed one hit after the third inning for the remainder of the game and the Braves ended the game in five innings, 8-0.

The Braves (6-0) will now travel to Richardson, Texas to play the University of Texas – Dallas on Saturday, Feb. 18. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
