Braves Travel to (8) OKWU for the KCAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday

The Braves ended the regular season with a 75-72 loss to the University of Saint Mary in Wilson Field House on Satuday afternoon. Ottawa shot 38.8 percent from the floor, 25 percent from the floor, and 70.6 percent from the free throw line. Ty Bland led OU with 21 points. Amil Fields and Deondre Buggage scored 10 points apiece. Bland also led the Braves with three assists.

Ottawa is led in scoring (15), and assists (2.1) per game by Deondre Buggage. Amil Fields leads the team in rebounding (6.8), blocks (0.4), and steals (1.4).

The Braves have a record of 25-23 all-time in the KCAC Tournament. The first year of the KCAC Tournament was in 1993-94. OU has won the KCAC Tournament championship in 1994-95, 2001-02, and 2008-09.

Wednesday will be the fourth time that Ottawa and Oklahoma Wesleyan have met in the KCAC Tournament. Ottawa has a record of 0-3 against the Eagles in the KCAC Tournament. This will be the third time that the game will be played at the Mueller Sports Center. The last time the two teams met in the KCAC Tournament was on Feb. 27, 2021 in Bartlesville. OKWU, then no. 20 in the NAIA, defeated the Braves 84-83.

On the road this season, Ottawa has a record of 5-7 and is 3-2 in its last five road games. OU defeated Avila, 75-74 in its last road game on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in Kansas City, Mo. Away from Wilson Field House, Ottawa is scoring 82.3 points per game while allowing 83.8. OU is shooting 44.8 percent from the floor, 36.5 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 74 percent from the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 46.3 percent from the floor, 36.1 percent from behind the arc, and 70.6 percent from the free throw line. The Braves are allowing opponents 11 second chance scoring opportunities per game and are being out rebounded 39.3 to 35.3 on the road this year.

This season, Ottawa is averaging 79.8 points, 37 rebounds, and 11.9 assists per game. They are shooting 43.1 percent from the floor, 33.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 71.5  percent from the free throw line.

OU is ranked 51st in the NAIA in points (2,233), 23rd in field goals attempted per game (65.6), 49th in 3-pt field goals attempted per game (25), and 49th in free throws made per game (14.4).

Wednesday is the 26th meeting between Ottawa University and Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Eagles lead the series, 16-9 and have won five straight games against the Braves. Ottawa's last win over OKWU happened on Dec. 17, 2020 in Wilson Field House. Ottawa won the game, 99-83. The very first game between the two teams happened on Nov. 29, 1980 in Bartlesville, Okla. The Eagles won the game, 66-65.

The Braves have lost eight straight at the Mueller Sports Center with its last and only win over the Eagles in Bartlesville, Okla. happening on Dec. 1, 2016. Ottawa won the game 76-68.

OKWU won both meetings this season against the Braves, defeating OU 98-64 in Bartlesville on Dec. 13 and then taking a 74-57 victory over OU in Wilson Field House on Feb. 11.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University is 25-3 overall, 20-2 in the KCAC, the KCAC regular season champions, have won six straight games, and is 12-1 at home this season. OKWU's lone home loss was seven games ago on Jan. 26 against Bethel College. The Threshers defeated OKWU 72-61.

The Eagles enter Wednesday's game coming off an 82-73 victory over Sterling College on Feb. 18 in Bartlesville. In the win, OKWU shot 47 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 42.1 percent from the free throw line. Kaleb Stokes scored 20 points, Dylan Phillip came off the bench to finish with 12 points, Brandon Bird scored 13 points, and Jaden Lietzke had a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds.

This season, OKWU is averaging 77.4 points, 42.5 rebounds, and 17.4 assists per game. They are shooting 47.2 percent from the floor, 31.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 59.1 percent from the free throw line.

The Eagles are ranked 22nd in the NAIA in field goals made per game (30.9), 23rd in field goals attempted per game (65.6), 50th in field goal percentage (47.2), sixth in offensive rebounds per game (13.6), 26th in defensive rebounds per game (28.9), seventh in total rebounds per game (42.5), fourth in rebound margin (12), 10th in assists per game (17.4), 18th in turnovers per game (10.9), 45th in blocks per game (3.8), 11th in personal fouls per game (13.7), third in points allowed per game (62.1), second in opponent field goal percentage (.369), and seventh in opponent 3-pt field goal percentage (.290).

Jaden Lietzke leads the team in scoring (15.4), rebounding (7.6), and blocks (1.5). Derrick Talton, Jr. is OKWU's leader in assists (4.8) and steals (2.8) per game.

In home games this season, the Eagles are scoring 80.7 points per game and shooting 47.9 percent from the floor. They are averaging 12.5 offensive rebounds per game.
