OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team was defeated 87-76 by no. 13 Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday evening in Wilson Field House.
Kansas Wesleyan had a 9-2 lead over the Braves at the start of the first half. Ottawa cut into the Coyote lead and was within 18-15 after free throws by
Amil Fields with 13:55 left in the half.
The Coyotes put together a run, extending their lead to double figures, 37-24, with 5:52 on the clock. OU answered and scored eight straight, cutting the deficit to five points, 37-32. KWU answered with four straight points, taking a 41-32 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to cut into the Coyote lead in the final minutes of the half and Kansas Wesleyan took a 43-34 lead into the locker room.
KWU pushed its lead back to double figures in the opening minutes of the second, taking the 66-52 lead. Ottawa again cut into the Coyote lead and after a free throw by
Elijah Mason, Ottawa was within 66-58 with 9:21 left in the game.
The Coyotes responded by increasing its lead to 21 points, 85-64. Ottawa was not able to rally and KWU took the 87-76 victory.
