Braves Travel North for KCAC Matchup with York

The Braves had their two game winning streak broken with a 70-68 loss to Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday evening in Wilson Field House. Ottawa shot 39.6 percent from the floor, 25 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 77.8 percent from the free throw line. Cierra Brown led the Braves with 24 points. Nicole Brown scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Janiyah Hendricks led OU with four assists and two steals.

The Braves are led in scoring (16), rebounding (11.3) and blocks (1.8) by Nicole Brown. Cierra Brown is OU's leader in assists (2.1) and steals (1.6).

Away from Wilson Field House this season, Ottawa has a record of 5-6 and a mark of 4-5 in KCAC play. OU has won two straight road contests. The Braves are averaging 63.6 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor. Opponents are scoring 64.9 points per game and shooting 38.3 percent from the floor.

Ottawa's 14 wins are the most by a OU women's basketball team since the 2016-17 season. That team, coached by Bruce Tate, finished the season with an overall record of 18-13 and a KCAC record of 14-8.

OU are averaging 68 points, 40 rebounds, and 12.8 assists per game. Ottawa is shooting 41.1 percent from the floor, 29.3 percent from the floor, and 73.2 percent from the free throw line.

The Braves are ranked 36th in the NAIA in free throw percentage (.732), 36th in defensive rebounds per game (29), 52nd in blocks per game (3.4), and 44th in opponent field goal percentage (.363).

In Ottawa's 14 wins, OU is averaging 75.9 points and shooting 44.2 percent from the floor. In the Braves 10 losses, they are averaging 57 points and 36.2 percent from the floor.

Monday is the 15th meeting between Ottawa University and York University. The Braves lead the series, 13-1 and are on a 13 game winning streak against the Panthers. Ottawa won the first game between the two teams this season, 68-51 in Wilson Field House on Nov. 16.

The first ever meeting between Ottawa and York happened on Nov. 9, 2001 in Wilson Field House. The Panthers won the game, 85-62. OU is 6-0 against York at the Freeman Center.

In the win over York on Nov. 16, Ottawa shot 46.9 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 76.2 percent from the free throw line. The Braves had four players in double figures led by Hailey Henry and Jayla Johnson. They finished with 15 points apiece. Cierra Brown scored 11 points. Henry led OU with six rebounds and three assists. Brown and Henry finished with three steals apiece.

York University is 8-13 overall and 6-11 in the KCAC. The Panthers are 1-4 in its last five games and are 5-6 at home this season.

The Panthers enter Monday's game coming off a 75-65 road loss to McPherson College on Saturday. York shot 34.5 percent from the floor, 25 percent from behind the arc, and 60 percent from the free throw line. Arcadya Conway led the team in scoring with 16 points, Alyssa Civitak finished the game with 14 points, and Yionis Kieth scored 11 points.

In home games this season, the Panthers are averaging 66 points per game, shooting 39.3 percent from the floor and turning the ball over 20 times per game.

York will finish the season without its leading scorer, Imani Honey due to an injury. She has not played since Jan. 14 and the Panthers are 1-5 since then.

Arcadya Conway is averaging 12.3 points per game. Yionis Keith is the team's leader in rebounding (6.5) and assists (1.9). Megan Mares-Torres is the team's leader in blocks (1.1), and Kiara Pesina leads YU in steals (1.9).
