(19) Softball Takes Two from Bethel

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team swept its second consecutive KCAC opponent on Monday afternoon at Alumni Park with two wins over Bethel College. The Braves won game one in six innings, 8-0, and took game two, 6-1.

Game One
Ottawa took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Emma Melvin reached first on a walk. Aliks Serna doubled to left, moving Melvin to third. A wild pitch scored Melvin and Serna moved to third. An error the Bethel pitcher, covering home, scored Serna and OU had a 2-0 lead.

The Braves increased their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Nayely Delgado's single to center scored Allison Kearney to give OU a 3-0 lead. OU scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth. Katie Enneking's sacrifice fly to center scored Cierrra Faubion and Ottawa had a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ottawa pushed three more runs across home plate. Madison Bunfill led OU off with an inside the park home run. Delgado then singled to left. She then moved to second on a ground out to second by Serna. Faubion's double to left scored Delgado and OU had a 6-0 lead. Ottawa scored one more run in the inning on a pinch hit single Reagan Hammons. Her hit scored Faubion to increase the Brave lead to 7-0.

Ottawa ended the game in the bottom of the sixth. Enneking walked and then moved to second on a single to center by Kearney. Bunfill reached first on a Thresher throwing error. Enneking scored in the error and OU took the game 8-0.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
The Braves took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Riley Newbold led OU off with a single to right field. Back-to-back wild pitches moved Newbold to third. Katie Enneking's single to center scored Newbold and OU led 1-0.

Ottawa increased its lead over Bethel in the bottom of the third inning. Newbold reached first on an error by the Thresher short stop. That error moved her to second, putting Newbold into scoring position. Newbold then moved to third on a passed ball. Enneking's sacrifice fly to center scored Newbold and Ottawa had a 2-0 lead.

Bethel threatened the Brave lead in the top of the fourth and fifth innings, having two runners on in both innings. But the Brave defense did not allow a run to cross home plate and OU took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

Ottawa put two more runs on the score board in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and Enneking on third, Allison Kearney hit her fourth home run of the season, giving the Braves a 4-0 lead.

The Threshers cut into the Brave lead with a run in the top of the sixth, 4-1. Ottawa earned that run back plus one more in its bottom half of the inning. Cierra Faubion reached first on a fielder's choice. The Thresher third baseman fielded the ball and threw it to the BC short stop, who was covering third. The short stop missed the throw and Hallie Robison scored on the error to give OU a 5-1 lead. Kelcie Kippes crossed home plate on a single to right by Newbold, giving OU the lead and the game, 6-1.

Ottawa (19-4, 4-0) returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 22 in a road contest against Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
