Women's Flag Football Moves Past Midland, 35-12

Box Score OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team won its home opener, 35-12, against Midland University on Saturday night at AdventHealth Field.

Ottawa took the lead just two plays into the game. A bad snap by the Warrior center sent the ball into the endzone for a safety, giving the Braves a 2-0 lead.

OU road that momentum into their first drive of the game. Four plays and 66 yards later, Ottawa was in the end zone. Madysen Carrera ended the scoring drive with a 31 yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt by Carrera was good and OU had a 9-0 lead.

Midland moved to ball to  midfield on its second drive of the game. That is where the drive stalled. On third and 16, the MU quarterback was sacked by Addison Orsborn, forcing a Warrior punt.

12 plays and 66 yards later, the Braves found the end zone once again. On fourth and goal from the MU 19 yard line, Carrera threw a 19 yard touchdown pass to Tatiana Dos Santos. The extra point attempt was no good and with 2:56 left in the first, Ottawa led 15-0.

On Midland's third offensive drive of the game, the Warriors moved the ball to its own 36 yard line and had a fourth and four. Orsborn continued to put pressure on the Warrior quarterback, sacking her on the MU 38 yard line and Ottawa took over.

The Braves' offense was not able to cross the goal line, turning the ball over on an interception. This time Midland was able to find the endzone, scoring on its eighth play of the drive on an eight yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt failed and Ottawa took a 15-6 lead into the locker room.

Ottawa received the ball to open the second half and continued with its scoring ways. OU put together a 10 play scoring drive that ended on a Carrera four yard pass to Alyssa Linkous. The extra point attempt by Carrera was good and OU had a 22-6 lead with 4:23 remaining in the third quarter.

Midland responded with a scoring drive of its own, 11 plays and 66 yards. The extra point attempt was no good and OU had a 22-12 lead with 2:54 on left in the third.

The Braves answered with its second touchdown drive of the second half. Carrera threw an eight yard touchdown pass to Mandolyn Scalisi. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and with 4:02 left in the fourth quarter, the Braves led 29-12.

The OU defense came away with a takeaway on the Warriors' second offensive possession of the second half. Midland moved the ball to the OU 28 yard line. On third and eight, Orsborn earned her third sack of the game, making it fourth and 14 for the Warriors. Susann Kaufmann picked off the Midland pass and the Braves took over on its own 19 yard line.

The Ottawa offense finished the game with its third straight scoring drive. This one was 13 plays and 61 yards, ending in a 14 yard touchdown pass from Mya Quinn to Linkous. The extra point attempt was no good and the Braves took the lead and the game, 35-12.
