Men's Volleyball Travels to McPherson to Play Central Christian and (7) Mount Mercy

The Braves are on a three match winning streak with victories over Central Christian College (3-0), Clarke University (3-0), and Kansas Wesleyan University (3-0). In those three wins, Ottawa had 98 kills, a .289 attacking percentage, 94 assists, 23 service aces, 104 digs, and 40.5 team blocks. Akeil Williams had 32 kills and 20 blocks. Michal Bak finished with 28 kills and 17 digs.

Akeil Williams leads the Braves in kills (2.9) and blocks (1.3) per set. Andrew Salinas is OU's leader in assists per set (4.6), Grant Younie leads OU in service aces (0.2) per set, and Kevin Davidson is the team's leader in digs (2.4) per set.

Through 12 matches, the Braves are averaging 8.7 kills per set, 8.1 assists per set, 2 blocks per set, 1.6 service aces per set, and 9.6 digs per set. OU has a .156 attacking percentage.

Akeil Williams was named GPAC Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Team for the second time this season. Williams had 20 blocks and averaged 2.2 blocks per set and 6.6 blocks per match in three victories last week. He also had 32 kills, a .520 attacking percentage, and averaged 10.6 kills per match and 3.5 kills per set.

OU is ranked 46th in the NAIA in attacking percentage (.156), 36th in service aces (68), 20th in service aces per set (1.6), 48th in receptions (758), 16th in reception errors (88), 43rd in digs (407), 19th in digs per ste (9.6), 33rd in solo blocks (30), 41st in block assists (108), 39th in total blocks (84), 25th in blocks per set (2), 19th in blocking errors (18), seventh in ball handling errors (15), and 49th in points per set (12.4).

Wednesday is the fifth meeting between Ottawa and Central Christian College and the second meeting in four days. The Braves lead the series, 4-0. OU defeated the Tigers 3-0; 25-12, 25-11, 25-7; last Friday night in Wilson Field House. This match will be just the second one played in McPherson, Kan. The first meeting between the two teams happened on February 28, 2022 in Wilson Field House. Ottawa won the match 3-0; 25-5, 25-17, 25-12.

In the win over Central Christian, Ottawa finished the match with 35 kills, a .275 attacking percentage, 34 assists, seven service aces, 37 digs, and nine team blocks. Michal Bak led OU with 10 kills. Akeil Williams had nine kills, a .467 attacking percentage, and eight blocks. Andrew Salinas led the Braves with 22 assists. Jimmy Flores had 11 assists. Kevin Davidson finished with a match high eight digs.

The match between Ottawa University and Mount Mercy University will be the fifth meeting between the two teams. Mount Mercy leads the series 3-1. The last match between OU and MMU happened on February 4, 2022. Mount Mercy won the contest 3-1; 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 34-36. The two teams have never played on eachother's home floors. All four matches have been played on neutral courts.

Central Christian College is 0-16 overall and 0-8 in the GPAC. The Tigers enter Wednesday's match coming off a 3-0 losses to Culver-Stockton College and Morningside University last Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Tigers are averaging 4.4 kills per set, 3.9 assists per set, 0.7 blocks per set, 0.7 service aces per set, and 5.6 digs per set. CCC had a -.054 attacking percentage.

Central Christian is ranked 46th in the NAIA in service errors (153), 30th in receptions (957), first in reception errors (192), 26th in blocking errors (15), and seventh in ball handling errors (15).

Kolby Campbell leads the Tigers in kills (1.7) per set, L.A. DeBerry is CCC's leader in assists (3.2) per set, Joshua Hernandez and Campbell is Central Christian's leader in service aces (0.1) per set, Campbell leads the team in digs (1.4) per set, and Joel Creary lead CCC in blocks (0.4) per set.

Mount Mercy University is 14-4 overall 9-4 in the HAAC, is on a three match winning streak, and is ranked no. 7 in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball Top 15. The Mustangs enter Wednesday's match coming off two wins over Simpson College on March 3 and a 3-0 win over Clarke Univesity on March 6.

Through 18 matches this season, MMU is averaging 12.3 kills per set, 11.7 assists per set, 1.8 blocks per set, 1.5 service aces per set, and 11.4 digs per set. The Mustangs have a .274 attacking percentage.

Mount Mercy is ranked 12th in the NAIA in kills (752), 12th in kills per set (12.3), 30th in errors (284), 17th in total attacks (1,706), 15th in attacking percentage (.274), 12th in assists (717), ninth in assists per set (11.7), 19th in service aces (93), 51st in service errors (137), 23rd in service aces per set (1.5), 33rd in receptions (927), sixth in digs (697), third in digs per set (11.4), 18th in solo blocks (39), 25th in block assists (150), 20th in total blocks (114), 30th in blocks per set (1.8), 10th in blocking errors (24), and 11th in ball handling errors (14).

Mount Mercy is led in kills per set by Brian Lynch (2.4), Rafael Vieyra leads MMU in assists (9.7) per set, Raphael Massara leads the team in service aces (0.3) per set, Tiago Almeida leads the Mustangs in digs (3.2) per set, and Raphael Massara is MMU's leader in blocks (0.7) per set.
