Women's Flag Football Downs Midland, 23-6

FREMONT, Neb. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team finished the regular season with a 23-6 victory over Midland University on Saturday afternoon at Heedum Field. The Braves clinch the no. 1 seed in the KCAC Tournament that starts on Friday, April 28 at Paragon Star in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Ottawa took the lead at the end of the first quarter. Madysen Carrera threw a 32 yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 7-0 lead.
The OU defense extended the Brave lead 47 seconds later. A bad snap by the Midland center sent the ball into the end zone for the safety and OU had a 9-0 lead.

The Warriors cut into the Brave lead at the 6:24 mark in the second quarter. Mikaela Nunez threw a 44 yard touchdown pass to Alyssa Butler. The extra point attempt was no good and the Braves took a 9-6 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Ottawa extended its lead over Midland. Carrera connected with Alyssa Linkous on an eight yard touchdown pass. The Carrera extra point was good and the Braves led 16-6 with 4:16 left in the third quarter.

The Braves scored the final points of the game with 42 seconds left in the contest. Carrera completed her third touchdown pass of the day, this one to Randrea Gamble and after the Carrera extra point, OU had the 23-6 victory.

  • The Braves finished the game with 211 yards of offense, 39 rushing and 172 yards passing. Midland had -21 yards rushing and 196 yards passing for a total of 175 yards of offense.
  • Madysen Carrera led OU with nine rushes for 26 yards. She also threw for 172 yards (26-for-38) and three touchdowns.
  • Alyssa Linkous led the Braves with 11 receptions. She had 39 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jazlyn Camacho led the Braves in receiving yards with 40. She had one touchdown reception.
  • Abby Brown and Susann Kaufmann led the Braves with five tackles apiece. Kaufmann had one sack and two tackles for loss. Hailee Lee had four tackles and one interception.

Ottawa (12-0, 9-0) will now compete in the KCAC Tournament. OU's first game will be at 4pm at Paragon Star in Lee's Summit, Mo.
