Women's Basketball is Upended by Saint Mary, 81-57

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team ended the regular season with an 81-57 loss to the University of Saint Mary Spires on Saturday afternoon in Wilson Field House.

The Spires opened the game on a 25-7 run and took a 27-10 lead into the second quarter. The Braves tried to chip away at the USM lead. Two free throws from Katelyn Alatini put OU within 34-21 with 5:19 left in the first half.  Saint Mary was able to outscore the Braves 10-7 to end the half and took 44-28 lead into the locker room.

The Spires continued to build up its lead in the second half. Ottawa was not able to recover, and Saint Mary took the 81-57 victory.

  • Ottawa shot 35.7 percent from the floor, 20 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 60.9 percent from the free throw line.
  • The Braves had three players in double figures led by Katelyn Alatini's 18 points. She also led OU with three steals.
  • Sydney Scott scored 11 points and Tiyani Rollins finished the game with 10 points off the bench.
  • Jayla Johnson led OU with seven rebounds.
  • Desiree Marshall-Penny finished the game with four assists.

Ottawa (15-13) opens the KCAC Tournament as the no. 7 seed and will travel to Saint Mary on Wednesday, February 28. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
