Men's Basketball and (RV) Kansas Wesleyan Play in the KCAC Quarterfinals on Thursday

The Braves fell in overtime, 93-91, to the University of Saint Mary last Saturday night in their final game of the regular season. Ottawa shot 48.4 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 79.2 percent from the free throw line. OU was led in scoring by Jayden Hibbitt with 38 points on 14-for-22 shooting from the floor. He was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with nine.

This season, Ottawa is averaging 81.6 points, 39.6 rebounds, and 13.7 assists per game. The Braves are shooting 44.8 percent from the floor, 36.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 77.8 percent from the free throw line.

OU is ranked 48th in the NAIA in 3-pt field goals made per game (8.8), 45th in 3-pt field goal percentage (.361), 27th in free throws made per game (15.9), ninth in free throw percentage (.778), 10th in defensive rebounds per game (30.2), 38th in total rebounds per game (39.6), and 44th in personal fouls per game (15.2).

This is the seventh time that Ottawa and Kansas Wesleyan have played against each other in the KCAC Tournament. OU has a record of 3-3 against the Coyotes. The last time the two teams met in the KCAC Tournament was on Feb. 24, 2022 in Wilson Field House. KWU won the game 84-73. Ottawa has played three times in Salina against the Coyotes in the KCAC Tournament and has a record of 2-1. Two of those games have been played in Mabee Arena. OU is 2-0 in those games. The last time the two teams met in Salina in the KCAC Tournament was on Feb. 20, 2019. OU won the game, 79-74.

Jayden Hibbitt is leading the team in scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game. He is shooting 49.9 percent from the floor and 41.3 percent from behind the 3-pt line. Hibbitt score a career high 38 points in OU's loss to Saint Mary last Saturday. Angok Anyang leads OU in rebounding, averaging 9.8 rebounds per game. He has nine double-doubles this season. Deondre Buggage is OU's leader in assists (4.8) and Kamren Woods is the team's leader in steals (1.5) per game.

Ottawa has a record of 8-6 in road games this season. The Braves are averaging 82.4 points per game and shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line. Opponents are scoring 79.6 points per game and shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 33.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line.

Thursday is the 192nd meeting between the two teams. Ottawa leads the series, 107-84 but the Coyotes are on a five game winning streak against the Braves. OU's last win over Kansas Wesleyan happened on Jan. 22, 2022 in Wilson Field House. OU won the game 67-60. The Braves have lost four straight to Kansas Wesleyan in Salina. Ottawa's last win in Mabee Arena happened on Jan. 8, 2020, 76-75. OU has a record of 9-7 in Mabee Arena. Kansas Wesleyan won both games this season, defeating OU 77-67 in Wilson Field House on Dec. 6, and taking an 89-83 victory over the Braves in Mabee Arena on Feb. 19.

In the loss to Kansas Wesleyan in Mabee Arena on Feb. 19,  Ottawa shot 50 percent from the floor, 38.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 85.7 percent from the free throw line. OU had three players in double figures led by Deondre Buggage's 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the floor. Jayden Hibbitt scored 21 points on 9-for-18 shooting and Kamren Woods finished the game with 14 points. He was 10-for-11 from the free throw line. Angok Anyang led Ottawa with 10 rebounds. Hibbitt finished the game with three steals.

Kansas Wesleyan University has an overall record of 21-7, a KCAC mark of 18-4, is on a four game winning streak, and has a record of 10-3 in Mabee Arena. The Coyotes finished the regular season with a 95-84 win over York University last Saturday in Salina.

This season the Coyotes are averaging 82 points, 35.8 rebounds, and 13.8 assists per game. They are shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, 34 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 78.2 percent from the free throw line.

KWU is ranked 49th in the NAIA in points (2,297), 10th in free throws made per game (17.3), 31st in free throws attempted per game (22.1), sixth in free throw percentage (.782), 30th in blocks per game (3.7), and 15th in opponent 3-pt field goal percentage (.303).

Jun Murdock leads Kansas Wesleyan in scoring, averaging 18 points per game. He is shooting 49.1 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line. Alex Littlejohn leads the team in rebounding, averaging 11.1 rebounds per game. He is averaging a double-double this season, 17 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Murdock is KWU's leader in assists (4.9) and steals (1.9) per game.

In Kansas Wesleyan's 21 wins, the Coyotes are scoring 84.3 points per game and shooting 48.6 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line.
