Men's Basketball and Avila Play in Wilson Field House on Monday

The Braves broke their two game losing streak with an 89-66 win over Tabor College in Tabor Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Ottawa shot 50 percent from the floor, 43.2 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 65 percent from the free throw line. The Braves had four players in double figures, led by Jayden Hibbitt's 27 points. He was 9-for-15 from the floor. Deondre Buggage scored 14 points, Najee Jones had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Keith Robinson finished with 10 points. Jones led the Braves with four assists and three steals.

This season, Ottawa is averaging 84.5 points, 41.5 rebounds, and 15.6 assists per game. They are shooting 47 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 73.7 percent from the free throw line.

Jayden Hibbitt leads OU in scoring (17.9), Keith Robinson is OU's leader in rebounding (8.8), Najee Jones leads the team in assists (3.3), Alex Riddick is Ottawa's leader in blocks (1.0), and Jones leads the Braves in steals (1.9) per game.

Ottawa is ranked 38th in the NAIA in points per game (84.5), 13th in field goals made per game (32.3), 10th in field goals attempted per game (68.7), 14th in total rebounds per game (41.5), 44th in rebound margin per game (5.6), and 30th in opponent field goal percentage (.411).

The Braves are 6-2 this season in Wilson Field House and 3-1 in KCAC play. Ottawa is scoring 88.5 points per game and shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 30.5 percent from behind the 3-pt line. Opponents are scoring 71.3 points per game and shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and 28.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line.

In Ottawa's 11 wins, the Braves are scoring 87.6 points per game and shooting 48.5 percent from the floor. In their four losses, OU is scoring 76 points per game and shooting 43 percent from the floor.

Jayden Hibbitt, Keith Robinson, and Najee Jones have been shooting lights out since returning from Christmas Break. Monday is the 50th game between Ottawa University and Avila University. The Braves lead the series, 29-20, and OU is on a four game winning streak against the Eagles. Ottawa won the only meeting last season, 66-51 in Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Mo. on Jan. 24, 2024. OU is 8-2 in its last 10 games against Avila. The first ever game played between the two teams happened on Nov. 19, 1983 at the WJC Cardinal Classic in Liberty, Mo. Ottawa won the game, 69-49.

Avila University is 8-6 overall and 5-4 in the KCAC. The Eagles are 4-3 on the road this season and enter Monday's game coming off a 73-70 win over Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina on Saturday. AU's eight wins are the most since the 2021-22 season when Avila finished the season with a record of 10-22.

The Eagles are averaging 73.3 points, 35.8 rebounds, and 12.5 assists per game. They are shooting 45.7 percent from the floor, 31.5 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 62.3 percent from the free throw line.

AU is ranked 39th in the NAIA in free throws attempted per game (22) and 32nd in opponent free throws attempted per game (30.4).

Xavier Kahube leads Avila in scoring (17.2), rebounding (7.1), and assists (2.4) per game. Joe Kearney is AU's leader in blocks (0.9) and steals (2.2) per game.

On the road this season, Avila is scoring 74.3 points per game and shooting 48 percent from the floor.

In their eight wins, the Eagles are scoring 75.4 points and shooting 47.8 percent from the floor. In their six losses, Avila is scoring 70.5 points per game and shooting 42.9 percent from the floor.

Avila had one of the most interesting mascots until the 1990-91 season. AU's athletic teams were previously called the Avalanche.
