OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season Tuesday night, defeating Haskell Indian Nations 103-81 inside Wilson Field House. The Braves shot a scorching 58.9 percent from the field and 56.5 percent from three-point range while placing five players in double figures.
First Half
Ottawa opened the night with a balanced attack after Haskell took an early 3-0 lead on a Khohanon Atazhoon triple. The Braves responded with a 20–7 run, capped by back-to-back threes from
Rich Martelly and a deep shot from
Elijah Mason, forcing a Haskell timeout at the 13-minute mark.
The Braves extended their lead to 16 points midway through the half, fueled by defensive energy and transition play.
Micah Willis and
Cameron Lawson each connected from beyond the arc, while
Kuol Reech controlled the paint on both ends.
Haskell battled back behind Jesse White, who scored 9 points in the opening half, including a pair of threes, to cut the deficit to single digits. Ottawa closed the period strong with a
Jackson Harding triple and a buzzer-beater three from
Sam Rollins, taking a 41–31 lead into halftime
Second Half
Haskell came out strong to start the half, trimming the lead to three (58–55) behind a surge from Nehemiah Boykins, who scored nine quick points. But the Braves answered with poise and precision.
Micah Willis hit a corner three, followed by a layup from
Cameron Lawson, and Ottawa never looked back.
A 14–2 run midway through the half pushed the Braves' advantage back to double digits. Lawson and Willis combined for 25 points after the break, and
Landyn Tyler's free throws and three-point shooting helped keep Haskell at bay.
Ottawa's offense clicked late, highlighted by a flurry of three-pointers — one from Tyler to extend the lead to 96–73 and another from
Adam Barbieri in the closing seconds to reach the century mark.
The Braves outscored Haskell 62–50 in the second half, shooting 76.9 percent (20-26) from the field and 87.5 percent (7-8) from three-point range.
