Box Score SALINA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team ended its season with an 81-69 loss to Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday night in Mabee Arena.
Sydney Scott got the scoring started for the Braves in the first quarter, giving OU a 2-0 lead. A 3-pt field goal by
Nora Ford and a free throw by Scott increased the Brave lead to 6-0 with 7:08 left in the first.
KWU answered with a 6-3 run, tying the game at nine all. The Braves retook the lead and after a basket by
Tiyani Rollins, OU had a 13-9 lead at the 1:54 mark in the first quarter.
The Coyotes scored four straight points to tie the game, 13-13. Baskets by Abby Sextro and
Dominique Schutte gave OU a 17-13 lead. Ottawa was unable to get a defensive stop on KWU's last offensive possession of the first. The Coyotes' Odessa Ozuna made two free throws and OU had a 17-15 lead at the start of the second.
Ford's basket at the start of the second quarter gave OU a 19-15 lead. KWU answered with a 9-0 run, taking a 24-19 lead over the Braves with 7:21 remaining in the first half.
Ottawa didn't allow KWU to run away and after a Ford basket, OU was within 27-25 at the 5:43 mark in the second quarter. Kansas Wesleyan went on a 7-2 run and increased its lead to 34-29.
A basket by Scott cut the deficit to three, 34-31. KWU's LaMyah Ricks hit a three, giving the Coyotes a 37-31 lead with 44 seconds left in the half. Ottawa was able to cut into the KWU lead in the final 30 seconds of the half. Scott was fouled on a shot attempt. She made both free throws and the Braves trailed 37-33 at the half.
Two Ford free throws at the start of the third put OU within three points, 37-34. KWU, however, maintained their lead and with 4:42 left in the third led, 49-41. The Braves were unable to slow down KWU as the Coyotes increased its lead to double figures by the end of the third, taking a 54-43 lead into the fourth.
Scott's basket at the beginning of the fourth put OU within 54-45. KWU responded with a 17-10 run, taking a 71-55 lead over the Braves with 4:44 left in the contest. Ottawa was unable to rally and Kansas Wesleyan took the 81-69 victory.
