Softball Falls to Friends

WICHITA, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team was defeated by Friends University on Tuesday evening. The Falcons took game one 7-6 in eight innings and 10-8 in game two.

Game One
Friends took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, 1-0. Ottawa answered in the top of the fourth inning. Addison Spencer singled to right field. Katie Enneking scored her with a home run to right-center and the Braves had a 2-1 lead.

The Falcons tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, 2-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Friends retook the lead, 3-2. The Falcons pushed one more run across home plate in the bottom of the sixth, 4-2.

The Braves responded with two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Mallory Dunn hit a pinch hit single to left. Megan Kennedy singled to left, moving Dunn to second. Kara Hafenstine's double to right-center scored Dunn and Kennedy, tying the game at four all. The OU defense did not allow the Falcons to score, and the game went into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth the Braves retook the lead. Addison Spencer singled to left. Roever, who was on second due to the international tie breaker rule, and Spencer stole third and second. Dunn tripled to center, scoring Roever and Spencer to give the Braves a 6-4 lead.

The Braves, however, were unable to hold Friends scoreless in the bottom of the eighth. The Falcons rallied in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs to take the 7-4 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the top of the first inning. Kara Hafenstine doubled to left and then moved to third on a ground out by Addison Spencer. Mallory Dunn's ground out scored Hafenstine and OU had a 1-0 lead.

Friends scored two runs in the bottom of the first, taking a 2-1 lead. The Falcons increased their lead with a run in the bottom of the second, 3-1. The Braves answered with two runs in the top of the third.
Megan Kennedy led off the inning with a double. Macy Roever's single to right scored Kennedy. Roever then swiped second and advanced to third with a sacrifice bunt by Hafenstine. Spencer singled to left, scoring Roever and the game was tied 3-3.

The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the third, retaking the lead 6-3. The Braves answered with four runs in the top of the fourth.

With two on, Roever hit a home run to center field and the Braves tied the game 6-6. Ottawa scored one more run in the inning, retaking the lead. Dunn's double scored one and OU had a 7-6 lead.

Friends answered in the bottom of the fourth with four runs of its own, taking a 10-7 lead. Ottawa cut into the Falcon lead in the top of the fifth.

Roever scored Davanie Medina with a single to right and the Braves trailed 10-8. In the top of the seventh, the Braves had runners on second and third. OU was unable to score them to send the game into extra innings and Friends took the 10-8 victory.
