Women's Flag Football Downs Southwestern, 34-0

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated Southwestern College 34-0 on Wednesday evening at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.

Ottawa struck first, taking the lead at the start of the second quarter. On a second and 12 from the SWC yard line, Cynthia Homs intercepted the Moundbuilder quarterback and returned the ball for the touchdown. The PAT attempt was no good and with 11:45 to go in the half, Ottawa led 6-0.

Ottawa forced a Southwestern punt and took over on its own 20 yard line. The Braves put together a seven play, 60 yard scoring drive that ended in a Madysen Carrera 18 yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. OU was not able to convert the extra point attempt and the Braves took a 12-0 lead into the locker room.

The Braves received the ball to start the second half. It did not take long for OU to put the ball into the end zone. On the third play of the drive, Carrera scrambled in for the one yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and with 6:36 to go in the third quarter, Ottawa led 19-0.

Ottawa forced another Southwestern punt and the Braves took over on their own 36 yard line. This time Ottawa was forced to punt but just two plays into the SWC drive, the Brave defense forced the turnover.

Homs recorded her second interception of the game and the Braves took over on the SWC 27 yard line with 8:07 left in the game.

The OU offense took advantage of the excellent field position, increasing its lead on a three yard touchdown pass from Carrera to Marley Spielberg. The extra point attempt was good and OU had a 26-0 lead.

On Southwestern's next offensive possession, the Brave defense forced a turnover on downs and Ottawa took over on the SWC 34 yard line and 3:23 left in the game. This scoring drive took five plays and ended with a five yard touchdown pass from Carrera to Spielberg. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves took the lead and the game, 34-0.
