Ottawa, KAN. - The Ottawa women's lacrosse team picked up another last-minute win as they defeated St. Ambrose by a score of 18-16 on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.
Ottawa came out firing, scoring the first six goals of the game and leading 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Braves extended their lead to seven twice in the second quarter before St. Ambrose scored the last four goals of the half to cut the halftime deficit to just three. The Bees outscored Ottawa three goals to two in the third quarter to go down two goals going into the final quarter. Ottawa scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to stretch their lead to four goals, and St. Ambrose countered with the next seven goals to not only tie the game, but take a two goal lead. The two teams scored a goal apiece, before Ottawa scored the final four goals, including a game winning goal with 40 seconds left and an insurance goal as time expired, both scored by
Brianna Valadao.
Rilee Barnett led Ottawa with six goals,
Brianna Valadao scored five goals.
KaiAnna Senne and
Ashlyn Lopez scored three goals each,
Faith Ruoff scored one. Senne made four assists, Barnett and
Isabella Pagliei made two each. Valadao and
Ashlyn Lopez made one assist each.
Shelby Bearden made fourteen saves in goal,
Eliza White made two en route to her first collegiate win.
Ottawa (6-6, 5-1 HAAC) returns to the field on Thursday, April 3 as they host Quincy University at AdventHealth Field for their final non-conference game. That game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
