Emporia, KAN. - The OU track & field team completed this weekend at the ESU Relays at Emporia State, and brought home two more school records, two more national qualifying marks, and 22 personal records.
It might be a bit of a stretch to say two
more school records were broken, because both were only a week old. The women's 4x100m relay team of
Aba Sam,
Roy'Janae Brown,
Jah-Nisha Campbell, and
Jordyn Weems finished with a time of 47.00 seconds, breaking the week-old record of 47.7 set by
Aba Sam,
Roy'Janae Brown,
JayOnna Perry, and
Jordyn Weems. Their time was also good enough for the NAIA "B" national championship standard and currently ranks #7 in the NAIA.
The second broken record was the women's triple jump, where
Aba Sam's mark of 11.84m broke her week-old record of 11.5m. Her performance is also an NAIA "B" national championship qualifying standard.
The Team had a total of 18 PR's, 8 of which came from the women's throwers alone, and 3 more wind-aided (and therefore unofficial) PR's. Other highlights and personal best performances include:
Coach Whittaker: "Our staff is very happy with the team's performance this weekend. Our women's throws group was on fire. Coach Loukota has been doing great things with that group. Coach Welch's distance group keeps getting better every week. Our sprints group is starting to round into shape, but there's still a lot left in the tank. I like the way things are going at this point in the season."
The men's and women's track and field teams will be back at Emporia State again next Friday for the Midwest Classic.
