Women's Flag Football Defeats William Woods, 48-0

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated William Woods University 48-0 on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.

The Braves received the ball to start the game after William Woods deferred to the second half. Three plays and 66 yards later, OU was in the end zone. Madysen Carrera threw a 39 yard touchdown pass to Alyssa Linkous. The extra point attempt by Carrera was good and the Braves had a 7-0 lead with 10:24 to go in the first quarter.

The OU defense forced an Owl turnover. Three plays in WWU's first offensive possession of the game the Braves had an interception. Bethany Uribe broke up the pass from the WWU quarterback and Dejonice Parris intercepted the ball, giving OU the ball on the Owl 34 yard line.  

Ottawa's offense took advantage of the good field position, increasing its lead over William Woods. Carrera and Linkous connected for a nine yard touchdown. The PAT attempt was good and OU led 14-0 with 6:30 left in the first quarter.

The OU defense forced a WWU punt and with 3:06 on the clock, Ottawa's offense took over on its own 32 yard line. The Braves put together their third straight scoring drive, four plays and 48 yards. Carrera threw a third touchdown pass in the quarter to Linkous, this one 23 yards, and the Braves had a 21-0 lead with 27 seconds to go in the first quarter.

The Brave defense forced a second straight punt by the Owls and OU took over on its own 39 yard line with 7:16 to go in the half.

Ottawa was able to increase its lead, scoring on its fourth straight possession. Carrera threw an 18 yard touchdown pass to Addison Orsborn. The PAT attempt was good and with 4:08 on the clock, Ottawa had a 28-0 lead.

OU's defense continued to dominate and forced another WWU punt. The OU offense took over on its own 37 yard line with 1:38 remaining in the second quarter.

The Braves were able to score one more touchdown, just as the buzzer on the clock sounded to end the half. Carrera threw her fifth touchdown pass of the half, connecting with Marley Spielberg for the 26 yard completion. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves took a 35-0 lead into the locker room.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. At the start of the fourth, OU had the ball on the WWU 14 yard line after its defense forced a turnover on downs. Ottawa extended its lead on a one yard touchdown pass from Olivia Cadiz to Marley Spielberg to take a 41-0 lead.
 
Ottawa's defense forced another turnover on downs and the OU offense took over with 3:12 left in the game on its own 29 yard line. The Braves put together a five play, 51 yard scoring drive that ended in a touchdown pass from Cadiz to Isabella Sosa. The extra point was good and OU took the 48-0 victory.
