RIVERSIDE, Mo. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team won its fifth straight KCAC Tournament championship on Saturday afternoon. The Braves defeated Kansas Wesleyan University 28-13 at the KC Current Practice Facility.
Kansas Wesleyan received the ball to start the game. The Coyotes put together a 10 play, 66 yard scoring drive, taking a 7-0 lead over the Braves. Ottawa answered on its first offensive possession of the contest.
It did not take along for OU to answer. Ottawa tied the game on a
Madysen Carrera six yard touchdown pass to
Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt by Carrera was good and the contest was tied 7-7.
Just one play into KWU's next offensive drive,
Mya Quinn intercepted the KWU quarterback pass and OU took over on the KWU 28 yard line.
Ottawa took its first lead of the game on its second offensive possession of the contest.
Madysen Carrera thew a two yard touchdown pass to
Alyssa Linkous. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and the Braves led 14-7 with 9:07 to go in the second quarter.
KWU moved the ball down to the Brave nine yard line its next offensive possession. On fourth and nine, the OU defense forced an incomplete pass and OU took a 14-7 lead into the locker room.
Ottawa received the ball to open the second half. The Braves put together a five play, 66 yard scoring that ended in a 25 yard touchdown pass from Carrera to
Marley Spielberg. Carrera's PAT attempt was good and the Braves had a 21-7 lead over the Coyotes.
On KWU's first offensive possession of the second half, the OU defense forced a KWU punt and Ottawa's offense took over on its own 19 yard line. It only took two plays for the Braves to find the end zone. Carrera threw a 44 yard touchdown pass to
Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt was good and with 3:01 left in the third, Ottawa had a 28-7 lead.
The Coyotes cut into the Brave lead with a touchdown with 1:25 left in the game, 28-13. Ottawa ran out the final 1:25, taking the 28-13 victory.
