Softball Splits Doubleheader With Park

OTTAWA, Kan. — Ottawa University and Park University split Wednesday's nonconference softball doubleheader at Alumni Park. The Braves took Game 1, 9-1, before the Pirates responded with a 3-2 extra-inning victory in Game 2.

GAME 1
Ottawa 9, Park 1
Ottawa used a big middle stretch and a 14-hit attack to secure a 9-1 run-rule victory in the opener.

Park struck first in the top of the second inning. Bella Rollo singled and later scored on Hanna Vaught's RBI single to right-center to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The Braves answered immediately in the bottom half. After Emma Melvin was hit by a pitch and Elza Clift entered as a pinch runner, Alex Genty delivered an RBI single. Abby Bellamy followed with an RBI single to put Ottawa ahead 2-1.

Ottawa broke the game open with two runs in the third and three more in the fourth. Braxton Stainbrook highlighted the surge with an RBI triple in the third and a two-run single in the fourth. The Braves added single runs in the fifth and sixth to secure the run-rule win.

Lanie Becker earned the win in the circle, limiting Park to five hits and one run over six innings.

Park responded in the nightcap with a 3-2 victory in an eight-inning battle.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the third inning. Gracie Ramse singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Chloe Gilber after Faith Tessma doubled to put runners in scoring position.
Ottawa tied the game in the fourth inning when Devanie Medina singled home Elza Clift.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the eighth. Park capitalized on timely hitting as Tessma delivered a two-run single to score Emma Reed and Jordan Crook, giving the Pirates a 3-1 advantage.
Ottawa answered in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from Emma Melvin to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Hanna Vaught closed the door in the eighth to secure the win.
