OTTAWA, Kan. - Ottawa University delivered a strong all-around performance Friday night, defeating the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in four sets, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18.
Ottawa hit an efficient .385 as a team and placed three attackers in double figures, controlling the tempo in three of the four sets.
Set 1 – Ottawa 25, UHSP 18
The Braves wasted little time taking control, opening on a 4-0 run behind early kills from
Marko Zolnjan and
Macort Pickup. Ottawa hit .545 in the set with 20 kills and just two errors.
UHSP cut the deficit to five late, but a strong close at the net sealed the opening frame for the Braves.
Set 2 – UHSP 25, Ottawa 23
UHSP responded with a .324 hitting performance to even the match. Ottawa battled back from a mid-set deficit and tied the score at 20-20, but the Saints finished the set with a late push to force a 1-1 tie.
Set 3 – Ottawa 25, UHSP 20
After nine early ties, Ottawa pulled away midway through the set with a decisive run fueled by efficient offense from
Petar Lazic and Zolnjan. Setter
Quentin Le Dortz guided the Braves to a .367 hitting clip in the frame as Ottawa regained the match lead.
Set 4 – Ottawa 25, UHSP 18
The Braves closed the match in commanding fashion, racing to a 5-0 start highlighted by a Pickup service ace and multiple Zolnjan kills. UHSP trimmed the margin to four late, but Ottawa maintained control and sealed the victory with steady offense down the stretch.
