OTTAWA, Kan. - The (RV) Ottawa University men's volleyball team shook off a slow start and powered its way to a four-set victory (23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-18) over Hastings College Saturday afternoon inside the Mabee Center.
How It Happened
Set One – Hastings 25, Ottawa 23
Ottawa traded blows early, with kills from
Petar Lazic and
Macort Pickup keeping the set tight. The Braves erased a late deficit and tied the frame at 23-23 after a Hastings attack error. However, the Broncos capitalized on back-to-back Ottawa miscues to steal the opener. Hastings hit .235 in the set, edging Ottawa despite 14 kills from the Braves.
Set Two – Ottawa 25, Hastings 15
The Braves responded emphatically. A 5-0 run, fueled by a service ace from
Quentin Le Dortz and strong net play from
Andrew Ely, pushed Ottawa ahead early. Pickup added an ace of his own, and the Braves' block began to take over. Ottawa held Hastings to -.067 hitting percentage.
Set Three – Ottawa 25, Hastings 13
Ottawa delivered its cleanest set of the afternoon, hitting .409 with just three errors. A decisive 7-0 surge midway through the frame—sparked by multiple kills from Lazic and a service ace by Pickup—blew the set open. The Braves controlled the tempo behind Le Dortz's distribution and a suffocating block that limited Hastings to a -.115 hitting percentage.
Set Four – Ottawa 25, Hastings 18
The Broncos hung around early, but Ottawa's firepower proved too much. Lazic and Pickup combined for key swings down the stretch, while the Braves' front line continued to seal off angles at the net. A late kill from Lazic and steady side-out efficiency closed the door on the four-set triumph.
