NORWALK, Iowa - The (RV) Ottawa University softball team fought through two tightly contested games on Sunday afternoon but came up just short in both ends of a doubleheader against (11) Grand View University. The Braves were limited offensively in the opener and lost 6–1 before dropping a heartbreaker in extra innings, 2–1, in game two.
Game 1: Grand View 6, Ottawa 1
Grand View capitalized on a few early Ottawa miscues and used a four-run third inning to pull away for a 6–1 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.
Ottawa actually outhit the Vikings 7–3, but defensive errors allowed Grand View to score three unearned runs and seize control early.
The Braves threatened in the first inning when
Brookelynn Becker doubled and
Emma Melvin followed with a single, but Ottawa was unable to bring the runners home. Grand View then scored twice in the bottom of the first and added four runs in the third inning to build a 6–1 lead.
Ottawa's lone run came in the third inning when Becker singled up the middle to score
Lilli Richerson. Despite putting runners on base throughout the game, the Braves were unable to mount a larger rally.

The second game turned into a pitchers' duel, with Ottawa taking an early lead before Grand View rallied late and won in the eighth inning.
Ottawa struck first in the fourth inning when
Brookelynn Becker launched a solo home run to give the Braves a 1–0 lead. The Braves' defense and pitching kept the Vikings off the board for much of the game.
Grand View finally broke through in the seventh inning, tying the game at 1–1 on an RBI single by Nevaeh Randall. After Ottawa could not score in the top of the eighth, the Vikings ended the game in the bottom half with a walk-off RBI single from Elle Nelson.
