GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Ottawa men's and women's indoor track & field teams ended their season on a high note at the NAIA Indoor National Championships over the weekend.
The first event of the entire meet was the pentathlon, and
JayOnna Perry hit the ground running. She won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.60, finished fifth in high jump with a jump of 1.59m, finished 15th in shot put with a throw of 8.59m, finished third in long jump with a jump of 5.66m, and finished third in the 800m run with a time of 2:26.84. Overall, she finished second with 3,637 points to secure her first All-American honors of the meet.
The men's high jump finished Thursday, which saw
Daniel Blount earn All-American honors via a fifth place finish with a jump of 1.99m.
JayOnna Perry picked right up on Friday where she left the day before, earning her second All-American honors with a second place finish in the long jump with a jump of 5.91m. She then finished second in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 8.49, qualifying her for the finals the next day. In the 60m prelims,
Roy'Janae Brown finished 18th with a time of 7.65. Brown would show out at the 200m prelims, qualifying for the finals in second with a time of 24.27.Â
On Saturday,
JayOnna Perry earned her third All-American honors of the meet with an eighth place finish in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.95.
Roy'Janae Brown finished seventh in the 200m with a time of 24.45, securing All-American honors.
In team scores, the Ottawa men finished in 62nd place with 2.5 points, and the Ottawa women finished tied-15th with 19 points.
This concludes the indoor track & field season for Ottawa, which garnered five All-American honors. The outdoor season will begin soon with a schedule to be released shortly.
