(RV) Softball Powers Past York

OTTAWA, Kan. – (RV) Ottawa University took two from York University on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves won game one, 4-3 and took game two in five innings, 11-2.

Game 1: Ottawa 4, York 3
Ottawa leaned on a clutch third inning and a complete-game effort in the circle to edge York in a tightly contested opener.

York struck first with an unearned run in the opening inning and added another in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Braves answered in a big way in the bottom half of the third.

Cece Mora sparked the rally with an RBI double to get Ottawa on the board. Moments later, aggressive base running and York miscues allowed two more runs to score, giving Ottawa a 3-2 advantage.

The Braves added an insurance run in the fifth when Emma Melvin laced an RBI double to right center, pushing the lead to 4-2.

York threatened late, scoring once in the sixth to make it a one-run game, but Ottawa pitcher Lanie Becker shut the door in the seventh to secure the win.

Becker went the distance, allowing just three runs (two earned) while scattering eight hits.

Game 2: Ottawa 11, York 2
Ottawa's offense erupted in game two, breaking things open early and never looking back in a run-rule victory.

After a scoreless first inning, the Braves exploded for three runs in the second. Devanie Medina delivered an RBI single before Abby Bellamy cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple.

The momentum carried into the third inning when Emma Melvin drove in a run, and Cassi Rodgers delivered the biggest swing of the day—a three-RBI double—to extend the lead to 7-0.

Ottawa continued to apply pressure, capitalizing on wild pitches and defensive miscues in the fourth and fifth innings to push the lead to 11-2.

In the circle, Cesara Roque was dominant early, tossing four shutout innings and allowing just one hit. Sara Smith closed out the victory.
