OTTAWA, Kan. – (RV) Ottawa University showed early fight and flashes of momentum, but a strong offensive surge from (RV) Missouri Baptist University proved to be too much as the Braves fell 20-6 on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.
First Quarter
Ottawa came out aggressive and matched Missouri Baptist stride-for-stride early. After falling behind 1-0,
Brianna Valadao answered quickly to even the score. The Braves continued to push, with goals from
Rilee Barnett and
Makayla Mason tying the game at 3-3 midway through the period.
However, Missouri Baptist capitalized late in the quarter with a scoring run, including multiple free-position goals, to take a 7-3 lead after one.
Second Quarter
The Braves continued to compete and found a spark behind Barnett, who scored twice in the quarter—including a pair of free-position goals—to help Ottawa stay within striking distance.
Despite Ottawa trimming the deficit to 11-6 late in the half, Missouri Baptist answered once more before the break to take a 12-6 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter
Ottawa's defense tightened early in the third, but Missouri Baptist struck quickly and added two goals in the period. The Braves generated opportunities with seven shots in the quarter but were unable to find the back of the net as the Spartans extended their lead to 14-6.
Fourth Quarter
The Braves continued to battle, controlling possession at times and winning draw controls, but Missouri Baptist's depth and efficiency on the offensive end sealed the game with six fourth-quarter goals, leading to the 20-6 final.
