Bellamy’s Big Day Powers Braves Past Kansas Wesleyan, 7-3

SALINA, Kan. – Behind a dominant offensive performance and steady pitching, Ottawa University picked up a strong KCAC win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Kansas Wesleyan, 7-3 at Salina South High School at the KCAC Tournament.

Kansas Wesleyan struck first with an unearned run in the opening inning, but Ottawa quickly settled in and took control of the game from there. The Braves answered in the third inning, as Alexandra Genty delivered an RBI double to even the score at 1-1.

The game turned decisively in the fourth inning. Abby Bellamy launched a solo home run to give Ottawa its first lead, and later in the inning, Braxton Stainbrook crushed a three-run homer to break the game open at 5-1.

Ottawa continued to apply pressure in the sixth inning. Bellamy struck again with her second home run of the game, and Emma Melvin added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-1.

Kansas Wesleyan made a late push in the seventh inning, scoring two runs on a double and a single, but Lanie Becker closed the door to secure the 7-3 victory for the Braves.

Becker was solid in the circle, going the distance to earn the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on 10 hits.

Offensively, Ottawa's lineup was locked in, totaling 11 hits and showcasing power throughout the order.
